Friday Update

Well, as soon as Cameron is down for his nap, I'm going to put on the 4th coat of "Cranberry Zing" paint on the kitchen side of the wall and the 3rd coat on the living room side. I had to go buy another gallon of paint (why do we still meause paint in Imperial Units? We don't buy a gallon of gas or a gallon of milk anymore!) and the lady at Canadian Tire suggested a different roller brush with a shorter nap. Hopefully that works. I also hope to start one of the "Toasted Wheat" walls tonight. Doesn't my paint sound like breakfast ingredients?

Just so happens that we received a piece of mail for the old owner's of the house yesterday. It looked fairly un-junk-mail-like, so I decided to look them up and give them a call. Turns out it probably was, but she asked how everything was going so I mentioned the renos. She said they had wanted to take out that dividing wall all together and fix it up like one of our neighbours did, but like us, couldn't afford the engineering work that would have went in to it. She was all excited to hear that we were repainting and taking out the wainscoting and redoing the floors. Sounds like they didn't want to have to bother will all the work that needed to be done on the house and they just moved to a new one that suited them better instead. She asked if I was excited to get rid of the black floor! LOL She said those were next on their to-do list.

She gave me some other interesting info on the house, that they redid the roof and the windows, which we were pretty sure were new. She said the master bedroom was a gross Pepto Bismal/Bubble Gum pink when they moved in (we saw evidence of that in the closet) and that there was wallpaper all over the walls in the basement. When they pulled it out they discovered the drywall hadn't been primed, just wallpapered right away, so that paper coating on the drywall ripped right off with it!! They re-mudded the seams (not very well...they have cracked and we can see them all now) and resorted to sponge painting everything to try to cover it up. That's why there is such discoloration on the walls (some places the paint is a different tone than in others). Good to know for when we repaint down here. She also said they always wondered what the deal was with the wainscoting and that it was nice to finally solve the mystery. She also laughed when I told her there was more linoleum under the subfloor that was under the current linoleum.

I think the've known for a lot longer than us that this house has issues. She was probably afraid when I told her who was calling and I bet she laughed a Ralph Wiggums "Ha-Ha!" when we hung up.

OT - I also got my new Driver's License in the mail yesterday. I thought maybe I was being tagged as a recently suspended driver but it turns out Ontario license cards have be redesigned with several new safety features. The picture is now in black and white and much closer up and is actually a much more flattering picture! Imagine that...I actually like my mug shot now! I really wish they would have included our Organ Donor status right on the card though, like on our Health Cards, instead of on a seperate piece of paper.

Guess that's it for now. I'll likely have new pictures to post tomorrow.
