I was struck with another reminder that my kid's are growing up this week. Sydney came home from school with her first "project" and given a week to do it. Her assignement...to build a CAR. Build a car? She's still using safety scissors!
So, I had a closer look and this is a compoment of the Second Grade Science curriculum. She's in a split class and I was told they would be studying the same subjects but her and the other 3 kids from the First Grade would have simpler assignments. Not so apparently!
Oh well...we are crafty so we took it on (not that we had much choice). The book had a suggested plan to use, so we worked off that and this is what she built...
The Tinkermobile!
It's made out of tetrapak box, two bamboo skewers, four flip top lids from beauty products (good timing that I was running out of everything all at once), electrical tape and two Rubbermaid drink box straws. Of course I had to do most of the cutting and glueing since that involved an x-acto knife and a hot glue gun, but she of course did all the design and decorating. She learned all about some big words like "hypothesis" and "prototype" when we experimented with wheel placement and weights. The car actually rolls really well and she was thrilled to discover Barbie fit inside!
Now the trick is keeping it safe til Wednesday when she has to bring it in to school. Cameronzilla is itching to get his hands on it and Barbie and her friends want to go cruising around the house!
