Frozen Solid

I wish this picture did justice to what it was really like this morning. This kind of cold has a sound, a smell, and a look that has to be experienced to understand.

The thermometer outside our bedroom said 40 below, but Keith says it's off by a few degrees. Weather network said -31 C. Either way it was the coldest one yet, and the first time my van wouldn't start. Granted we didn't plug it in til about an hour before it was time to start it. The car, which doesn't even have a block heater, turned over but wouldn't go...the van would only click. Hopefully once it warms up a bit we will get them moving! So...no nursery school this morning.

I went out and topped up the feeders this morning. It was so cold the finches were actually bothering with the higher fat and calorie sunflower seeds, that they have to work at to open and then break up in to bite size pieces. On a warmer day they stick with nyjer seed and already opened sunflower seeds!

Thanks for sharing the snow picture. Living in the deep South, I'm fascinated by such weather, and since I can't imagine what it actually feels like, I just think it looks really pretty. :)

Wow Shannon, I don't even know that kind of cold. It looks beautiful and deadly! I guess I can stop complaining about our measly 13 degree weather here in the Carolinas!
