We finally took a weekend to just be by ourselves and get some stuff done around the house. We hoped the kids would play nicely, we could get some more canning done, and then we could do something fun.
Friday was good. I canned antipasto and Keith did another batch of hot pickle mix. We ordered in pizza and just relaxed.
Saturday didn't get off to such a great start though...
Although it definitely wasn't one of her best pieces of work, the message was loud and clear. No Cameron Allowed. I suspect it was hastily drawn during an invasion. Notice the child proof knob on the outside of her door? We put that on to keep him out of the lego blocks and Polly Pockets, but I guess it just doesn't cut it anymore.Fight! Fight! Fight! Something breaks..."it wasn't me". "Get him out of my room" "Sydney, that's mine!" "Mom, Cameron hit me"...argh!
Despite the constant fighting between the kids, I did manage to get some more canning done (my hands were stained pink from the beets) because Keith took the kids on another Geocache hunt. Saturday night he worked on his pickles, Sydney and I played Scrabble, and after both kids were down we flaked out and enjoyed some Man Tracker and Deadliest Catch...being the Discovery Channel and OLN nerds that we are.
When did we get old?
Today however was fun day. We headed out for Keith's mine's family picnic. My childhood memories of company picnics involved lots of beer, the kids swimming, people playing tug of war and one unlucky snake. This pinic however was quite a bit more sophisticated. Gold panning, face painting, family portraits, mine tours, fishing for toys, cookie decorating, rock and mineral identification, balloon animals and a live band were among the entertainment.
Do you see the flake of gold?!
Cameron wasn't terribly fond of the clown, but being the Allen that he is....
he was much happier when he was handed a rod and a fish!
He loved all the Mighty Mine Machines too.
Safety First! Notice how he put his seatbelt on?
I finished off my day by going to a Discovery Toys party and then coming home to fresh baked ginger snaps and dinner on the table! Does it get any better? We cleaned up, bathed the kids and put them down and thought we'd try to watch the MTV Awards. OH. MY. GARSH! What the heck is he wearing? What did she say? If that guy would just pull up his GD pants he wouldn't have to hold his crotch. She kissed a girl and liked it? T-Pain, T.I., The Ting Tings, Young Jeezy? When did I get so old?
Just to make me feel evern older, my baby goes to meet his nursery school teacher in the morning!
