Miracles do happen! Here in Northern Ontario, it's hard to believe that anything can grow in this climate, when you are stuck indoors during a snow storm in January (or February, or March, and even sometimes in April!). But come July, we are just surrounded with the most amazing goodies in nature...but this year is extra speical. The strawberries and blueberries are ripe at the same time!!! I don't remember much of anything lately, but I'm pretty sure this doesn't normally happen. Apparently global warming does have the odd perk.
We went strawberry picking at Lise's Strawberry Farm in Chelmsford this morning. We've had a lot of rain this year and contrary to what you'd expect, this isn't really a good thing for the berries. Lise told me that the straw surrounding the plants gets too wet and the berries rot a lot quicker. Being two weeks or so in to the season wasn't really great either, but we did manage to pick 18 Litres of the sweetest and juicest berries she has. It was just a little more labour intensive than in past years. I'm pretty sure Cameron ate his weight in berries, the dirty, rotten ones, being his favourite, caps, stems and all! But there was no stopping him. He actually started sneaking them! He's bound to have a sore belly later today and I think we'll be fighting over who has to change the next few diapers. Gross! Once we have these all cleaned up and hulled we'll start on the blueberries that grow wild in the backyard and hopefully I'll be making some jam by tomorrow!

Who wants to change tomorrow's diapers?
