Floored!

Ok impatient people! These are the pictures I took Sunday morning of the house. There's been a lot of clean up since then, but we still have a long way to go. I bought the trim for the windows, now we have to stain and install them and somehow I have to decide on window treatments. The choices are overwhelming! I still have a lot of cleaning and painting to do, but at least now we can work at our own pace instead of being on a deadline to accomodate our helpers.

Here's a WWYD...I have to decide on what to do with the walls in my hallway, landing and stairs to the basement. Right now they are all painted in the same "non-colour" as the upstairs was, and as you can see from the above picture, the top part of the wall in the landing is white. What would you do to those walls?
Part of the reason why I wanted to paint so badly is that all the walls in this house other than bedrooms and bathroom are in that safe "non-colour"....even the basement. Everything goes with it and it was probably cheap in the industrial sized buckets. It was probably on sale too. I find it hard on the eyes, and with the flurorescent lights down stairs, I feel like I'm in an office building, not a home. It also makes me think of the siding that every single new house is sided in...cheap and bland and that's not what I want. I'm the person that's willing to pay 3 times the price to have green or red siding rather than "putty". I think it ended as a good choice in the living room because the red wall draws your attention, and I will have quite a few photographs, my birdhouse quilt and the curtains up, so they will become the focus rather than the colour of the wall. However, in the rest of the house, the colour of the walls is about as decorated as the're going to get, so I want them to say "Welcome to my home" not "Welcome to my office".

My only thoughts right now are to try a really greyish green...sort of like my coat hanging on the wall here, but more muted. I don't want it to say "Merry Christmas" either, so I think I'm waking a fine line.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!!

Nice floors...if you want to do grey and don't want it to look permanently like Christmas, try a blue grey.....not that I am an expert, tell Keith is it not grey it is gun barrel blue.....Good Luck
